Teaching Focus

My teaching extends across the areas of Bible, theology and church history. While this breadth has often stretched me beyond my comfort zone, I have enjoyed the sense of discovery that comes when sitting with students to read and study together the great texts and figures of the church. I use a mix of lectures and seminars, and my goal is for students to become independent thinkers who can engage critically with the subject matter.

Publications

My research focuses on the New Testament with particular interests in the Second Temple Jewish context, the relationship between Judaism and Christianity, Christology and anthropology. I am currently writing a theology of 1 Peter as part of a New Testament Theology series being published by Cambridge University Press. I continue working on anthropological themes, which is a topic that runs through several of my publications. A full list of my publications can be found on my page.

I am an associate editor for the 19-volume New Testament Theology series being published by Cambridge University Press (under the senior editorship of John M.G. Barclay). Ben C. Blackwell and John K. Goodrich are also associate editors. I am also the Area Editor for Religious Studies Review over Judaism: Hellenistic Through Late Antiquity.
