Commuter Life & The Collegium

At HCU, over 55% of our student body is made up of commuter students. We understand that commuter students may face unique challenges on a daily basis that an on-campus resident may not. That’s the inspiration behind the Commuter Life Program!

The Commuter Life team is dedicated to providing commuter students with resources to make them feel right at home while on campus. One way we do this is by providing a space that is 100% dedicated to commuters – The Collegium. This space is designed to feel like a home away from home, complete with a full-sized fridge, microwave, Keurig, lockers, TV and a separate quiet study space. It’s the perfect retreat for before, between and after classes.

The Collegium is located in the Brown Student Center, right above the Chick-Fil-A. The space is open and free for any commuters to use Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

  • At the Collegium, you will find a team of upperclassmen commuterÌýstudents dedicated to serving as a resource for commuterÌýstudents… these student leaders are called Commuter Assistants!

    But, what is the job of a commuter assistant?

    • To provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the CollegiumÌý​
    • Plan events for the entire commuter student populationÌý​
    • Serve as a resource to answer questions relating to the student experience andÌýstudent involvement at HCU ​
    • Connect students with resources on campusÌý​
    • Host and plan bible studies for the commuter populationÌý​
    • Plan events for the commuter population in and outside of the CollegiumÌý

  • HCU Commuter Life hosts an assortment of events toÌýincorporate our Commuters into a home-away-from-home environment and bring all students together asÌýone Husky family.

    Most popular events:

    • Free Lunch TuesdayÌý​
      • Every Tuesday, Commuter Life partners withÌýKaleoÌýDiscipleship and the Baptist Student Ministry to provideÌýlunch for commuter students!​
      • This occurs from 11AM-1PM (or until we run out ofÌýfood) in the Collegium every Tuesday.​
    • Feature FridayÌý​
      • Every Friday starting at 9AM, there’s a movie marathonÌýin the Collegium with varying themes chosen by yourÌýCommuter Assistants!Ìý​
    • Bi-Weekly Bible Studies​
      • Every other week, Commuter Life hosts a community Bible study in the Collegium led by our very own Commuter Assistants!Ìý
    • Game Nights
      • There are several game nights throughout the semester for our commuter students to participate in including:
        • Bingo Night
        • Trivia Night
        • Board Game Night
        • The Annual Ping Pong Tournament
